The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) wishes to assure the public that Sierra Leone remains completely free of Ebola Virus Disease, with no confirmed, suspected, or probable cases recorded anywhere in the country.
This assurance comes in the wake of the World Health Organization’s declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following ongoing Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Addressing members of the press, the Executive Director of the NPHA, Prof. Foday Sahr, emphasized that the Government of Sierra Leone is fully alert and actively maintaining a strong national preparedness posture.
“Sierra Leone is Ebola-free, and we remain committed to keeping it that way,” Prof. Sahr stated firmly. “Our preparedness is not based on panic or reaction. It is built on the painful but valuable lessons learned during the 2014–2016 Ebola outbreak. We are taking proactive measures, strengthening surveillance systems, enhancing border screening, and ensuring rapid response mechanisms remain fully operational.”
The NPHA further assured citizens that public health teams across the country remain on high alert and are continuously working with partners to safeguard the nation against any potential threat.
The Agency is therefore urging the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by promptly reporting any suspected illness to health authorities, while continuing to observe public health safety measures.
“Protecting the health and safety of every Sierra Leonean remains our highest priority,” the Agency reaffirmed.
