Two Years of Public Health Excellence: Building a Resilient Future through One Health

Happy 2nd Anniversary to the National Public Health Agency of Sierra Leone! 🎉

14th December 2023 – 14th December 2025

Today, we mark a moment of national pride and institutional triumph. Two years ago, on 14th December 2023, the National Public Health Agency of Sierra Leone (NPHA-SL) was formally established. An audacious and visionary move championed by His Excellency Brigadier General (Retired) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Guided by his enduring commitment to human capital development and resilient health systems, the president laid the foundation for an agency that would not only respond to emergencies but also reimagine public health for generations to come.

Since that historic launch, NPHA-SL has grown in strength, scope, and spirit. Through pandemics, floods, and complex health threats, the Agency has stood firm, delivering on its mandate with discipline, innovation, and heart. At the helm, Brigadier General Professor Foday Sahr, a medical doctor and military strategist, has led with precision and compassion, ensuring that every challenge became an opportunity to serve better, reach further, and build stronger.

This biennial celebration is more than a milestone. It is a mirror reflecting the resilience of our people, the brilliance of our teams, and the boldness of a national vision. From district surveillance officers to lab scientists, from drivers to directors, every hand has shaped this journey. Every voice has mattered.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Health, whose steady guidance and strategic oversight have kept us aligned, agile, and accountable. His leadership has been a compass through complexity, ensuring that the Agency remains rooted in service and driven by results.

And to His Excellency the President, thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of institutions. Thank you for investing in systems that outlast crises. Thank you for reminding us that public health is not just about response, but about dignity, equity, and national pride.

Congratulations to the entire NPHA family, our partners, and the people of Sierra Leone.

We are two years strong and just getting started.

Long live NPHA-SL. Long live Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱
