Biography

Dr. Zikan Koroma is a medical doctor, public health researcher and academic with expertise in infectious diseases, health systems strengthening and public health emergency preparedness and response. He currently serves as the Director of Biomedical Services at the National Public Health Agency in Sierra Leone, where he leads research initiatives focused on the intersection of HIV care, antimicrobial resistance and emerging infectious diseases.

Dr. Koroma earned his MSc from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), University of Liverpool and MBChB from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), University of Sierra Leone, respectively. He has been actively involved in both quantitative and qualitative research that addresses health disparities, antimicrobial resistance, and health communication strategies. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and policy briefs that inform national health strategies in Sierra Leone.

He has collaborated with national and international partners, including the WHO, US-CDC, African CDC, WAHO and other NGOs. Dr. Koroma is currently providing strategic leadership, technical oversight, and operational management for key national biomedical and public health service programs, including the Integrated Public Health Laboratories, Case Management. National Infection Prevention and Control, and Risk Communication & Community Engagement programs. The Director ensures alignment with national health priorities, global standards, and emergency preparedness and response frameworks.
