Biography
Dr. Mohamed Boie Jalloh is a distinguished public health leader and medical expert serving as the Director of Planning, Policy & Research at Sierra Leone’s National Public Health Agency (NPHA). With advanced training in tropical medicine, and outbreak response, he brings over a decade of frontline experience managing health crises and strengthening national health systems.
Dr. Jalloh holds a Distinction in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (2020) and an International Master of Public Health (IMPH) with Distinction from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2017). His medical foundation includes an MBChB from the University of Sierra Leone. He is also a proud alumnus of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces’ Horton Academy that offers Staff and Command Courses.
His career exemplifies leadership in global health emergencies. He served as Clinical Lead at Ebola Treatment Centers during Sierra Leone’s 2014–2015 outbreak, later becoming a WHO Consultant for IPC and Ebola management in Tanzania. During COVID-19, he treated patients at Sierra Leone’s National Clinical Referral Centre and led Infection Prevention efforts at the UK’s Broomfield Hospital, earning institutional recognition. Most recently, he led and coordinated Sierra Leone’s surge team during Rwanda’s 2024 Marburg outbreak.
As an academic, Dr. Jalloh lectures in Biostatistics at his alma mater, COMAHS, University of Sierra Leone. His research focuses on epidemic control and health equity, with several peer-reviewed publications on diseases including Ebola, COVID-19, and mpox in journals such as The Lancet, NEJM, and Emerging Infectious Diseases. He has since May 2023 being serving as the Deputy Managing Editor at Sierra Leone Journal of Biomedical Research.
Honored nationally and internationally, he received Sierra Leone’s Gold Special Ebola Award from the Presidency and recognition from COMAHS and Broomfield Hospital (UK) for exceptional service. He actively contributes to global health policy as a WHO Advisory Committee member on Personal Protective Equipment.
Dr. Jalloh combines strategic oversight with field expertise to advance NPHA’s mission: contributing to the set-up of a resilient public health infrastructure for Sierra Leone.
