On 16th April 2026, the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) conducted a supervisory visit to Kailahun District’s Points of Entry, reaffirming Sierra Leone’s commitment to border health security. The exercise was sponsored by Jhpiego, whose support continues to play a vital role in strengthening health systems and ensuring effective monitoring at the nation’s borders. The District Health Management Team (DHMT) of Kailahun, represented by Madam Janet B. Hindowa and Mr. Morrison Kamara, also provided valuable support, reflecting the importance of collaboration in advancing public health preparedness.
Led by Ms. Rachael Abi Kuyembeh, Public Relations Officer, and Miss Kadiatu Conteh, Point of Entry Officer, the team visited Bailu, Baidu, Samballu, and Bomaru Points of Entry. At each site, staff demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to their duties. Their vigilance in monitoring daily traveler movements and their commitment to operational standards underscored the crucial role of frontline officers in safeguarding Sierra Leone’s borders.
The supervisory visit highlighted the importance of regular monitoring exercises in motivating staff, reinforcing operational standards, and fostering inter-agency collaboration. The active involvement of Jhpiego and DHMT representatives ensured that the visit was not only a routine exercise but also a demonstration of collective commitment to Sierra Leone’s border health resilience.
By sustaining such collaborative efforts and continuing to invest in Points of Entry, Sierra Leone strengthens its preparedness against cross-border health threats. The Kailahun visit stands as a testament to the dedication of frontline staff and the value of supervision in reinforcing national and regional health security.
