Brig-Gen Prof. Foday Sahr

Brig-Gen Prof. Foday Sahr is a Medical Microbiologist with an interest in the Pathogenesis and treatment of viral hemorrhagic fevers. During the West Africa Ebola outbreak, Prof. Sahr together with local and International Researchers investigated new managements of Ebola Patients. Through their efforts, Intravenous infusion was adopted as standard of care of Ebola patients which was resulted in a reduction of mortality from Ebola in Sierra Leone from 90% to about 40%.

Prof. Sahr was also the Technical Lead for the COVID 19 Response in Sierra Leone. Through his Leadership and effort of his team, Sierra Leone recorded one of the lowest mortality rates. Hence, the protocols introduced by the Sierra Leone surveillance team are now referenced Internationally as best practice.

Before his appointment as Executive Director of the NPHA, Prof. Sahr was the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone, prior to which he was Surgeon General of the Joint Medical Unit of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

Prof. Foday Sahr has over 140 Research Publications in Local and International Peer Review Journals.
