Makeni, Sierra Leone, October 26, 2024 – The Ministry of Health and National Public Health Agency (NPHA), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has successfully implemented a critical public health measure by destroying over 14,000 Ebola and COVID-19 samples at the Bombali Regional Government Hospital in Makeni.

This action was executed in strict adherence to international health regulations to mitigate the potential risks associated with the handling and storage of infectious disease materials. A team of highly qualified experts, including Samuel Randall, Johannes Ansumana, Alhaji Thaimu Kamara, Simon Ruhweze, Dr. Jude Williams, Jmea Katta, Simon Sorie, Emmanuel Abiodun Ogundeyi, and Johnathan Green, meticulously oversaw the destruction process, ensuring safe disposal and containment.

Specialized equipment and stringent protocols were employed to minimize any potential environmental impact during the destruction. This routine disposal is an essential component of the Ministry's commitment to responsible and safe management of infectious disease samples, safeguarding public health and preventing the spread of disease.
