Freetown, Sierra Leone, 25th October 2024

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), through its Regional Pandemic Prevention Program (RPPP), has taken a significant step in bolstering Sierra Leone's Mpox preparedness efforts. A recent donation of vital Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) will play a crucial role in increasing awareness about Mpox prevention, particularly among travellers.

The donated materials, including A5 flyers, A2 posters, roll-up banners, flex banners, fact sheets, and awareness cards, will be strategically distributed at key locations such as Freetown International Airport, water taxis, seaports, and other water landing sites in the Western Area. This targeted approach aims to reach a wide audience and effectively disseminate crucial information about Mpox symptoms, transmission, and prevention measures.

Professor Foday Sahr of the NPHA expressed deep gratitude to GIZ RPPP for their generous contribution. He emphasised the importance of these resources in strengthening public health readiness across Sierra Leone and preventing the spread of Mpox in the community. The collaboration between NPHA and GIZ RPPP highlights the commitment to improving public health outcomes in Sierra Leone through strategic partnerships and resource allocation. By equipping the NPHA with these IEC materials, GIZ RPPP is empowering health authorities to effectively communicate key messages and mobilise community support in the fight against Mpox.

Through this collaborative effort, GIZ RPPP and the NPHA are working together to protect public health and safeguard Sierra Leone's well-being. By raising awareness and promoting preventive measures, they aim to mitigate the potential impact of Mpox and contribute to a healthier and safer future for all.
