The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) and Partners held the launching of the Revised One Health Governance Manual and the holding of the Sierra Leone Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting at the Sierra Palms Hotel on October 10, 2024.
The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between government agencies and stakeholders in addressing public health challenges through a holistic approach. The Revised One Health Governance Manual provides a framework for coordinated efforts in disease prevention, surveillance, and response across sectors. It also emphasises the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and communication to effectively manage public health threats. The Sierra Leone Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting served as a platform for discussing strategies and action plans to enhance the country's overall health security.
The executive director of the National Public Health Agency , Prof. Dr. Foday Sahr, in his statement emphasised the importance of One Health, and he highlighted the key achievement of the secretariat in establishing a strong network of collaboration among various government agencies and international partners. He also stressed the need for continued investment in capacity building and infrastructure to ensure a robust public health system in Sierra Leone. The Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, who officially launched the Revised One Health Governance Manual, in his statement, highlighted the critical role of collaboration between government agencies,
Non-governmental organisations (NGO's) and international partners in achieving sustainable health outcomes. Additionally, he stressed the need for ongoing capacity building and training to strengthen the country's ability to detect and respond to emerging health threats in a timely manner.
