Blrig. Prof. Foday Sahr, Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency and Chairman of the National Task Force for Drug and Substance Abuse, Leads Drug Destruction Event

On 19 July 2024, Brig. Prof. Foday Sahr, the esteemed Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) and Chairman of the National Task Force for Drug and Substance Abuse, played a pivotal role in the destruction of narcotics and contraband drugs. The event took place at the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) office, located within the Sierra Police Training Centre in Hastings, Freetown.

In his keynote address, Prof. Sahr underscored the significance of the event in the ongoing battle against drug and substance abuse. He highlighted the critical need for collaboration between law enforcement and public health authorities to effectively combat this pervasive issue. "This event marks a vital step in our concerted efforts to eliminate the scourge of narcotic drugs from our communities," Prof. Sahr stated.

He went on to emphasise the necessity of continuous public education about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of providing robust addiction support systems. "We must not only remove these harmful substances from our streets but also educate our citizens on the risks associated with drug abuse and ensure that those struggling with addiction receive the help they need," he added.

Prof. Sahr praised the joint efforts of various law enforcement agencies that contributed to the successful seizure and destruction of narcotics and contraband drugs. He assured that the National Task Force for Drug and Substance Abuse would continue to support these initiatives. "The National Task Force remains committed to this cause and will provide unwavering support to law enforcement in their fight against drug trafficking and abuse," Prof. Sahr affirmed.

The destruction of narcotics and contraband drugs symbolises a significant victory in the ongoing war against drug abuse, highlighting the importance of interagency collaboration and community involvement in creating a safer and healthier society.
